Cross Keys v Bargoed Preview and Team News
By David Glastonbury | 10/03/2017
Cross Keys will be hoping their fine run of form continues this Saturday when they host Bargoed in Tier 2 of the Principality Premiership.
The Bulls finished the ‘pre-split’ Principality Premiership season in 15th place in the table, having won just 3 of their 15 games. They have only played one league game since the split, where they recorded a fine 18 points to 13 victory at St. Helens against Swansea on the first weekend of February.
When the sides met at Bargoed Park back in November in the regular Principality Premiership fixture, it was Keys who secured the honours with a 23 points to 16 victory. Points for Keys on that evening came from tries by Simon Williams and a penalty try, whilst Josh Prosser kicked 2 conversions and 3 penalties against his old side. For the Bulls tries came from David Evans and former Keys youth product Duane Dyer. Calum Jones also kicked 2 penalties for the home side.
Back to Saturday’s game and Keys make 5 changes to the side that started last week’s National Cup Quarter Final victory over Pontypool. In the pack Corey Hewlett starts in place of Lewis Smout at loose head and Tom Lampard swaps places with Adam Powell to start in the back row. In the back line Barney Nightingale, Joe Goodchild and Owain Leonard all start in place of Phil Williams, Mathew Powell and James Leadbeater respectively.
